It has been my experience that counselling for AS carers works best when the person with the diagnosis of AS is also in counselling. Whilst family therapy can prove helpful I believe that individual one to one counselling is most useful to my clients. A lot of the counselling offered to people with a diagnosis of AS at the moment is based on cognitive behaviourial therapy (CBT). My work with people with AS takes a different approach in line with how I work with AS carers. Rather than viewing you as a machine that needs to be fixed I like to take a more human approach based around learning to do things differently. Counselling offers a secure and safe place in which you can come to understand better how you relate to other people and the emotions they evoke. Together we can begin to work out more positive ways of living your life and more helpful ways of dealing with the pitfalls of AS. If you would like to find out more about my counselling work with people with a diagnosis of AS call me on 07747 456431 or email me on david.mcdade@live.co.uk |
